The GE-7 is actually a pretty good pedal right out of the box. For years I have studied the different mods available out there. While some services may use slightly different parts, they all pretty much do the same thing ...replace capacitors and op amps to lower the noise and to improve the tone.
So, no smoke and mirrors or snake oil here! We use quality
metal film Panasonic capacitors
and
metal film resistors
when replacing cheaper components. Some components are of a different value.
We use high quality/low noise
NE5532 op amps
as replacements for the three stock op amps (the older ones actually have four), just because that is my preference.
These changes
improve
the tone
, and help to
eliminate noise
.
And of course we put in a nice bright
blue LED
…we use the “water clear” LED is clear when the pedal is off, and a nice bright blue when on. This is
great for a dimly lit stage,
but also
a bright LED is a must if you play outside gigs.
There is simply no better mod out there for the GE-7.
The result is a warmer, fuller pedal with more clarity and less noise.
*As the GE-7
slider knobs get older, a lot of them have a tendency to crack.
On some of these pedals we replace the slider knobs with a
new set of
micro-synth knobs.
