THIS LISTING IS FOR A NICE MID-19th CENTURY ENGLISH SILVER VINAIGRETTE, c. 1856. THIS LOVELY VINAIGRETTE FEATURES A CENTER CARTOUCHE WITH ENGRAVED MONOGRAM "A. S.".  THE SILVER IS BEAUTIFULLY DECORATED WITH ENGRAVED BASKETWEAVE BACKGROUND AND GILT INTERIOR WITH HINGED RETICULATED PLATE. MARKED ON THE INTERIOR WITH ENGLISH HALLMARKS FOR BIRMINGHAM, STERLING, MAKER'S STAMP WITH INITIALS "E S" FOR EDWARD SMITH, MONARCH FACING LEFT AND DATE LETTER FOR 1856.
MEASURES 3/8" HIGH, 1 3/8" LONG AND 1" WIDE. WEIGHS 17 GRAMS.
THE PIECE IS IN VERY NICE CONDITION WITH NO NOTED FLAWS EXCEPT A SMALL BREAK IN THE BAND THAT GOES AROUND THE PIERCED PLATE WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE BASE SECTION. THIS IS ONLY NOTICED WHEN THE INTERIOR PIERCED SECTION IS RAISED. THE OUTER LID CLOSES TIGHTLY.
