  • Composition: Sterling Silver (.925)
  • Age: 1780-1800s
  • Complete: Has Interior still intact but stuck
  • Brand: Unmarked that I can find
  • Purpose: SNUFF or VINAIGRETTE
  • Style: Georgian
  • Type: Articulated Fish
  • Pattern: 1800's Continental
  • Condition: This amazing piece is in really good condition for its age. All parts are still complete and connected right down to its garnet eyes. The Head still has all 3 fins attached. The only issue are 2 spots where the silver scales are broken. Unlike most all I have seen of these it still retains its original interior, not just an empty hole like most. It has the pull out part of its Snuff or Perfume piece, its just stuck in place and I cannot get it out, though I did not try hard as I do not want to break it. Its amazing that after all this time it is still there, I certainly do not want to be the reason for change to that.
  • Material: Coin or Sterling Silver

    Description

This is a Rare & Fantastic Estate Fresh very old COIN or STERLING SILVER 6" ARTICULATED FISH
from a long time collector of High End Coin & Sterling Hollowware.  I have purchased part of a huge collection and will be offering it here over the next several weeks.  These pieces are from all over place including Paris, UK, Germany and here in the US.
This particular piece is just a stunning Georgian Style
RARE, I believe, 1780-1850s COIN or STERLING SILVER 6" ARTICULATED FISH SNUFF or VINAIGRETTE with GARNET EYES.  Its extremely scarce and the couple I have found are well in excess of 1000.00$.  This beauty,
Unlike most all I have seen of these, still retains its original interior, not just an empty hole like most.  It has the pull out part of its Snuff or Perfume piece, its just stuck in place and I cannot get it out, though I did not try hard as I do not want to break it.  Its amazing that after all this time it is still there, I certainly do not want to be the reason for change to that.  The Articulated sections are well formed and tooled and the shaped tail is similar to Continental made piece. It boasts 11 sections 8 of them movable.  It is the only one out there of this vintage that has the Head slide off forward, with 2 beautifully tooled side Fins attached while the Back Fin remains in place as the guide for the top.  This is a highly styled well crafted Fish.  Sadly I cannot find a mark on it for identification, though I did have it tested to be Solid Silver.
It weighs 29.1g,  but we are not selling it at weight.  This fantastic piece 6" long and is 11/16" in diam at the heads throat tapering to the tail.  The tail fin is 1 1/8" top to bottom.  Ya just don't see these
very early Articulated pieces around as they were scarce to begin with.  Not some 20th century knock off, its the real deal!
